The pictures below are the final pictures of the P-2 Restoration project in Brunswick, Maine.
The Brunswick Naval Aviation Museum will host a ceremony on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. to celebrate the completion of the refurbishment of the P-2 Neptune Aircraft located on ADM Fitch Avenue at the entrance to Brunswick Landing. The ceremony will be held beside the aircraft.
This weary warrior has served our country in numerous deployments to various locations throughout the world during the Korean and Vietnam Wars and in many patrols of antisubmarine detection and deterrence during the Cold War. In 1969 she was moved to Naval Air Station Brunswick, Maine to stand guard at the main entrance where she continues in that capacity.
After 75 years of faithful service, the P-2 was beginning to show her age and the elements worked their debilitating stresses and flaking on her exterior. Therefore, a combined group of retired Navy veterans, Brunswick Naval Aviation Museum volunteers, and the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority joined forces to refurbish that exterior.
Civil Air Patrol volunteers along with crew members of USS JOHN BASILONE (DDG 122), gave the P-2 a washdown to prepare her for repair and painting. After some minor metal repair, the professional sanding, priming and painting of the aircraft was accomplished by Moore Painting with the aid of a manlift provided by Sunbelt Rentals. Carrot Signs did the work on the decals that capped off the process.
After over two months of hard work, the P-2 is now ready to continue at her duty station for many years to come. A banner of all contributors will be hung from the fence surrounding the aircraft.
