Midcoast Charitable Foundation Awards $25,000 to 18 local Charitable Organizations

On February 5^th, 2025, the Midcoast Charitable Foundation of Maine voted unanimously to award $25,000 to eighteen (18) local area organizations, as part of its annual grant program.  According to Herman “Nick” Nichols, Chair of the Foundation; “it is our great pleasure to be able to assist with the great missions these organizations perform in the Midcoast region and we are excited to watch the impact these grants can have”.  A list of this year’s recipients can be found on the Brunswick Landing website www.brunswicklanding.us

In 2011, the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority created the Midcoast Charitable Foundation of Maine, a separate 501(c)(3) organization for purpose of receiving and holding charitable funds and distribute the income for charitable purposes to organizations serving individuals and families in the Midcoast Maine region. The mission of the Foundation is to strengthen community organizations and services that will improve the quality of life, economic viability and sustainability of the communities and not for profit organizations that serve the Midcoast region.  The Foundation is funded through annual special event revenues, such as the airshow, race the runways’ etc.

Applicants must be nonprofit, 501(c)(3) federal tax-exempt organizations in the following categories: charitable organizations, educational or literary organizations or a social welfare charity organized under the provisions of 501(c) (4).  Organizations whose missions include lobbying, public policy development, donations to individuals or discriminate based on race, color, sex, sexual or gender orientation, age, physical or mental disability, genetic pre-disposition, religion, ancestry or national origin are not eligible.

The Foundation anticipates making grants in the range of $1,000 to $3,000 per organization annually; but awards may be higher for compelling needs and projects. The available funds for grant distribution this year was $25,000.  In total, the Charitable Foundation received 18 applications requesting a grant to their respective organizations coming to a cumulative number of applications since 2011 to 98 and the total amount of charitable funding given by MRRA since the start of the foundation to $193,702.
