In response to media queries about the next steps as we plan the succession of Kristine Logan as the Executive Director of MRRA, I wanted to share the following as board chair. In summary, the Board’s top priorities are : 1.) Continue to aggressively pursue (working collaboratively with the Town of Brunswick, the state, and the various agencies involved) finding a permanent solution to the use of AFFF; 2.) To initiate the search for an interim and then permanent executive director, and; 3.) Make sure that the many projects in progress, or soon to begin, continue successfully.
MRRA will continue to work with our supportive partners in the DEP, Navy, Congressional representatives and staff, Brunswick Fire Department, the EPA, private contractors, and others to develop an ultimate fire suppression solution that aligns with the law, meets the needs of our tenants and community, and provides a safe environment. We welcome the contributions of others willing to join the effort in a constructive way.
The Board will be looking for an interim director to oversee daily activities, while allowing the Board the necessary time to conduct a thorough, nationwide search for a permanent replacement to lead the redevelopment authority. We are focused on developing a thorough process, ensuring that we find a leader who aligns with MRRA’s mission, vision, and values that have served the redevelopment efforts so well since its inception, and as originally set up by the State.
During this transition period, the Board, the dedicated MRRA staff, and the future interim executive director will work closely together to keep moving forward. Our commitment to finding replacement fire suppression systems for the hangars, and our current projects including upgrading roads and stormwater infrastructure, working to transfer the domestic water system, designing a customs facility, property sales, working with developers, and updating the airport Master Reuse Plan stay at the forefront, and we’ll ensure that our programs and services continue.
We believe it’s important to keep our community, State, and stakeholders informed throughout this process. We’ll provide updates as new developments occur and decisions are made.
The board is confident in the strength, dedication, and resilience of MRRA’s organization and look forward to entering this next chapter with the support of our many partners and stakeholders. We appreciate the significant outreach of support we’ve received for both Kristine and the MRRA team. We will miss Kristine’s passion, ethics, and intelligence.
